Whether you're a student, professional, or curious mind, Profundo simplifies the process of generating comprehensive and engaging research reports. This manual will guide you through the use of Profundo, ensuring you make the most of its powerful feature set.

Using Profundo

Signing In

  1. On the homepage, click on the "Start free” or “Try for free" button.
  2. Choose to sign in with your Google account or enter your email address
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the sign-in process.

Creating a Research Paper

  1. Initial Prompt or Template Selection:
    • Upon sign-in, you will be prompted to either write your initial research prompt or select a template.
    • If you select a template, fill out the required fields.
    • To write your initial paper free from X, Y, Z <<< We need to provide some guidance here.
  2. Customizing Your Search:
    • Choose an AI Model: Select from available AI models. Claude3 (Pro only), ChatGPT 4o, or Gemini 1.5 Pro.
      • Choose Claude3 if you need exceptional bias control and high-speed responses, and are willing to invest in a more expensive solution for high-stakes or professional use.
      • Choose ChatGPT 4o if you are looking for a cost-effective, well-rounded AI with good speed and balanced bias control for general use.
      • Choose Gemini 1.5 Pro if you require a high-performance model with strong bias mitigation and fast responses, suitable for professional or academic settings.
    • Language Selection: Choose the language you want your paper to be written in. Note, that you may write your prompt in any language understood by the models. Currently, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish are supported.
    • Search Types: Select a search type from the choices below
      • Google Web: General web search for broad information.
      • Google News: Search recent news articles for up-to-date information.
      • Google Scholar: Search academic papers and scholarly articles for in-depth research.
    • The use of a single appropriate Search type will produce superior results.

Custom Sources

Profundo allows users to enhance their research by bringing their own data through custom sources. This feature lets you upload up to 20 sources, either from downloaded PDFs or by pasting links. There is a 2MB limit per source.

These sources will be heavily weighted in the process.
Existing profundo reports can make a great choice as a custom source if you wish to anchor your results in a known knowledge area.

Uploading Custom Files

  1. Navigate to Custom Sources:

    • Click on the paperclip icon in the search bar.
  2. Upload PDFs:

    • Click "Upload a PDF" and select the PDF files from your device.
  3. Add Links:

    • Click “Paste a Link” and then paste the link to your desired online source. Click “add another link” to add more URL sources.
  4. Add Your Own Papers:

    • Use your past Profundo papers as a source by clicking the “add a paper” button and then selecting the desired paper.
  5. Reuse Uploaded Sources (upcoming):

    • Saves every uploaded source used in recent papers. Click on “reuse uploaded sources” and select the desired source.

Editing and Finalizing

  1. Summary Generation:
    • After customizing your search, Profundo will generate an outline summary for your paper.
    • Edit the summary to suit your needs.
      1. Your input at this step is important, it can significantly increase the quality of the result
    • When finished click “create outline”.
  2. Outline Review:
    • Read through and edit any of the text by clicking on it.
    • A thorough outline review is key to generating a useful output
    • To delete a section click on the big X button near the section title
    • To add a section click on “add section,”
    • To rearrange a section click on the large six gray dots and drag your mouse to move the section into position.
    • To delete a question in a section, click on the small X button on the question.
    • To add a question, click “add a question”.
    • To rearrange a question click on the small six gray dots and drag your mouse to move the question.
  3. Save and Restore:
    • When making long changes to an outline, click on the save button near the bottom to save your work.
    • If you accidentally deleted a section of your outline or made changes you regret, click on the restore button to revert back to the original outline.
    • If you have made changes, you must save your changes before you can start writing.
  4. Start writing:
    • Once the outline is finalized, click on "Start Writing" to generate your finished essay.
    • Profundo will now produce a comprehensive paper with sources cited accurately.
    • Please be patient, this process can take time.


Pricing and Billing

Profundo operates on a credit-based system. You can purchase credits to use the platform, and the cost of generating a paper is deducted from your credit balance. Typically, it costs around $2 to generate a paper with four sections but this can vary based on the complexity of the paper, number of sections, and how many times "autogenerate" features are used.

Here's how you can access and manage your billing information:

Accessing the Billing Page:

  1. Login: Sign in to your account.

  2. Settings: Click on the 'Settings' option from the main menu.

  3. Billing: Select the 'Billing' tab from the left-hand side menu.

Understanding the Billing Page:

  1. Credit Balance:

    • Shows your current credit balance.

    • Click the refresh icon to update the balance.

  2. Add Credits:

    • Click the '+ add credits' button to purchase more credits.
  3. Payment Methods:

    • Displays your saved payment methods.

    • To remove a payment method, click 'remove'.

    • To add a new payment method, click the '+ add' button.

  4. Auto-recharge:

    • Shows whether auto-recharge is enabled or disabled.

    • Click 'enable' to turn on auto-recharge.

    • When enabled, you will be automatically charged the credits required when they run low to prevent service interruptions.

  5. Usage Limits:

    • Shows your current monthly spend limit and notification settings.

    • Click 'manage' to adjust these settings.

    • Displays your current month's spending.

  • If a paper becomes stuck, you can click retry to attempt to generate the paper again.

  • If you encounter any issues with the platform, try refreshing the page or logging out and back in.

    • Once you begin writing a paper, the AI model and search type are locked in for that project. You would need to start a new project to change these settings.
  8. How can I back up my research papers?

    • You can download your completed research papers in PDF format to keep a local copy. Additionally, all your projects are saved in your Profundo account and shown in the sidebar for easy access.
  9. Does Profundo support different citation styles?

    • Not yet.
  10. Is there a limit to the number of projects I can create?

    • Nope.
  11. How much does it cost in credit to write a paper?

    • It takes approximately $2 to write the typical paper that has 4-sections.
